Class dates and times for fall 2008
Wednesday class dates for Fall 2008:
September 3 - October 8, 5 weeks (no class October 1) and October 15 - November 12 (5 weeks). The Wednesday night class is held at Blue Moon Body Works at 708 South Lamar, Suite G. Saturdays, 10:30-noon for Fall 2008: September 6 - October 11, 5 classes (no class October 4) October 18 - November 15 (5 weeks). Each five week segment will cost $70.00. Saturday classes are held at Heloise Gold T'ai Chi Studio. These classes each have 10 openings. If you know you want to take a class, let me know you want a spot earlier rather than later. The Wed class has more of a focus on chronic pain and smaller movement while the Saturday class is more dynamic in nature. Lessons are done while lying on the floor; all classes meet in south central Austin. I will send you a reminder with location, what to bring, etc. as the time for the class start date grows nearer. To register, just email me or call me. BLUE MOON BODY WORKS is located at 708 South Lamar, Suite G. This is just south of the intersection of Barton Springs and Mopac and is located in a building behind a video company, Castleview Productions. It is just south of the Shell station. The best way to approach this is from Barton Springs Road--take Barton Springs to Lamar, turn south on Lamar (away from the bridge) and look for Castleview Productions on your right after the Shell station. The building is yellow and rust colored. Turn into the driveway and park. You can park in the parking spots on the right and along the left side against the wall when you drive in and in the parking lot. We are meeting after hours, so parking spots should not be a problem to find at 6:30. Face the back of the parking lot--you will be looking at a blue building here--and you are looking right at the door you will go into to find the space. You walk through this door and Blue Moon Body Works is right in front of you.
HELOISE GOLD STUDIO is located at 2525 Wallingwood, Building 7, suite 702 B. (Basically, at the intersection of Barton Springs Road and MoPac.)
What to wear/bring/etc.
Please plan to dress comfortably (i.e., wear clothes that you can move in) and bring a substantial mat or a thick blanket to the class. The studios are not carpeted, so please bring more than you think you need! Be nice to yourself!
Feldenkrais mats are available for purchase through mail order. They come in two sizes: 6'x4' and 7'x4'. Contact Debbie Ashton at 888-935-6287 to order. For more general information about Feldenkrais , please click on the link entitled "Feldenkrais" on the toolbar to the left. If you have questions specific to your situation or are wondering about anything that is not explained on the site, just call me at 470-4268 or drop me an email (address is at the bottom of this web page).
Why do it?
What are the particular benefits of movement education in comparison to, say, yoga, Pilates, trance dance classes, and so forth?
Personally, it has been my experience, and that of my clients, that Feldenkrais can enhance just about anything a person does in his or her life by improving functional and self-care abilities. This holds true whether you are a professional athlete, a doctor or health care provider, a teacher, a mother, a senior, or a person with a particular difficulty. You don't have to be injured to benefit from movement education. What you do need is an interest in learning about how you can make your engagement in your daily life easier and more comfortable. What do you like to do, or wish you could do or do better? walk? run? dance? cartwheel? This work can also be a part of goals that include wishing to improve your relationship with yourself or with others. Awareness is a powerful general skill that enables you to make changes--to choose to not be trapped in the same old habits again and again. I teach awareness: awareness of yourself, your environment, and your needs. These things are essential to being able to take care of yourself and handle the changes life throws at all of us with grace and, dare I say it, optimism! I think it's all right to be unsure about change, or sometimes downright resistant to it, as long as we understand that change is going to happen anyway and that learning to work with it is probably going to be a valuable long-term approach. I tell my clients, "You don't have to be convinced. You just have to show up, and see for yourself." |
